February 2007

One of the goals of the Phil’s Phriends team is to promote PHIL-anthropy to worthy causes.  A number of us rode our bikes this summer for a fundraiser event for Leanne Schmall – a young high school girl that died from cancer 2 years ago.  The family is holding a fundraiser this weekend to raise money for scholarships in her name.  If you are free this Saturday, drop by the Elks in Franklin to show some support – the family will remember Phil’s Phriends so be sure to mention the team.  Here’s the info:

Three very good reasons!!!

Core exercises

The March issue of Bicycling magazine had some good core exercises for cyclists. For those of us with “gut” issues and back pain on long rides, these just might be the answer. Just click here to get to the document. You’ll have that six pack in no time.

sfh_2006_for_web.jpgHere is another great training and teamwork opportunity. On Sunday, March 4, 2006, the Adirondack Club is sponsoring Spin for Hope! Spin for Hope is a three hour ride at the club from 9:00am-12:00 noon. This cycling event will take place simultaneously at participating New England Health Racquet Sportsclub Association (NEHRSA) clubs around New England.  All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. You can ride solo and commit to raising $300 or put a team together and commit to raising $200 each. The Club is aiming to beat last year’s total of $4,600!

Participants are encouraged to either register as an individual and cycle for the entire three hours, or form a team of two or more people and take turns cycling. The registration fee is $25.

Individuals registering to cycle the whole three hours are required to raise a minimum of $300. Those registering as part of a team are required to raise a minimum of $200 each. Prizes will be awarded to top fundraising individuals.
