Every so often, we encounter a person, a letter, or a story that reminds us why we ride in the PMC. Sue Rohrbach shared a card with me the other day that captured the essence of the PMC.

It was a card from a young boy who wrote the following:

Enclosed is $25 of my birthday money that I would like to contribute to your Pan Mass Challenge bike ride to help people like my Mom who have cancer. Good luck.

When I saw the note which appeared in a card which said “life is good” on the cover, I was deeply moved. In talking with Sue, I learned that the boy’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago. But I also understood that she had raised a wonderful son who was seeking to make sense out of what was happening, and reaching for a way to help others in the face of adversity.

I’ll be thinking of the brave and generous young boy as I pedal next weekend. I hope you’ll have him in your thoughts too.
